Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Tuesday said he has asked authorities for a traffic plan and a time frame regarding work on the four-lane port connectivity project near Hotel Maharaja in Vasco.
Almeida was speaking to reporters after the visit of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to Vasco to discuss work on the much-awaited project.
“Vascokars want the four-lane project because there is traffic congestion on Vasco roads and heavy vehicles move in and out of the port. A lot of deaths have taken place on Vasco roads due to movement of heavy vehicles,” said Almeida.
“I spoke to the CM on hotmixing of roads near Varunapuri and Ayappa temple, following complaints from people. I have now got an assurance that the road will be tarred at least by April.”
“Another issue I took up was regarding the up-ramp connecting the four-lane port connectivity project near Maharaja Hotel in Vasco. The Traffic Police has to give us a clearance. I have been assured that the clearance will be given in the next few days.”
“I had demanded a traffic plan to know how traffic will move in Vasco while work on the up-ramp is taken up. I have also asked for a deadline and a time frame to complete the work. I also mentioned about overhead electrical wires and shifting of utilities during work on the up-ramp,” said Almeida.
Urban Development Minister Milind Naik had earlier stated that the up-ramp connecting Vasco with the port connectivity four-lane project between Verna and MPT would work as an exit from Vasco city.
“After discussing with former CM late Manohar Parrikar, I had proposed an up-ramp from Hotel Maharaja, connecting it to the four-lane highway. There is misunderstanding that the up-ramp will go to the port, but I want to clarify that the ramp is an exit from the city.”
“The main benefit of this project is that vehicles arriving into Vasco need not use the same road to go out and can use this ramp to exit, thus solving 50% of traffic in the city. The project will reduce traffic congestion in Vasco,” Naik had said.
