CANACONA
Shubham Komarpant, the opposition Councillor of Canacona Municipal Council, recently visited Sports and Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, accompanied by members of the Shree Ravi Charitable Trust. During the visit, they presented a memorandum outlining several demands that have not been addressed locally.
In the memorandum, Komarpant, the Patnem Ward Councillor, called for the completion and opening of Shristhal Ground for public use. Though the ground was finished some years ago, it has not been officially opened. Youngsters have been organising football and cricket matches there without formal permission, as neither the Panchayat nor the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) officially oversees the ground, according to sources.
Komarpant also requested that each of the government high schools in Agonda, Sadolxem, and Gaondongrim be provided with their own playgrounds, as none of these schools currently have one.
Accompanied by four other trustees of the Shree Ravi Charitable Trust, Komarpant further demanded the construction of a new walking track for Canacona residents. Many locals walk along the Canacona Bypass Highway (NH66) in the mornings and evenings, but the high-speed traffic on the road poses a safety risk.
As an Arts and Culture Minister, Komarpant urged Gaude to organise talent shows at Canacona’s Ravindra Bhavan to help people showcase and develop their skills.
“Canacona urgently needs a fully equipped sports complex, including a swimming pool, indoor courts, gymnasium, and more,” Komarpant stated, requesting that the minister address the needs and aspirations of the people of Canacona.
