On one hand, the number of educated unemployed people is rising, while on the other, many projects in Honda Industrial Estate are struggling due to frequent power cuts. As a result, project owners are being forced to shut down several initiatives.
There have been repeated calls for action regarding the power interruptions in Goa, but project owners claim that the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) is ignoring the issue. They argue that the constant power cuts are severely affecting their projects, leading to ongoing financial losses.
Many projects in Honda Industrial Estate, located in Sattari taluka, are now failing. The main reason behind this is the regular power supply disruptions that have been occurring for years without any funding or support.
This situation has caused continuous losses for business owners, leading to the closure of many projects, while those still running are struggling to stay afloat.
Project owners report that power supply is cut off at least four to five times each day. They have requested a dedicated power line for the estate, but despite meeting with the relevant ministers multiple times, they have only received promises, with no real action taken.
Complaints have also been made to the Chairman of the Industrial Development Corporation, but these have been ignored.
Once, many factories in the industrial estate operated successfully, providing jobs to hundreds of educated people.
Additionally, many small-scale industries were set up. However, with the closure of major projects, many smaller industries have also shut down, leading to rising unemployment in the area. The lack of jobs is becoming a growing concern.
There is also a need to provide canteen facilities for workers in the ongoing projects. Due to the closure of several projects, the canteen has also shut down, leaving workers without access to basic facilities. The workers have called on the IDC management to address this issue and provide the necessary support.
If we want to create more employment opportunities for educated people, it is crucial to have successful projects in industrial estates.
However, many of the existing projects are closing down, and new ones are not being set up due to various challenges.
It is vital to sustain the current projects in order to provide these opportunities.
The road in the industrial estate is in poor condition, with numerous potholes. There has been a consistent demand for repairs, but it remains unmet. The deteriorating state of the internal roads is causing further problems for workers at ongoing projects.
Goa Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco must take note of the dire situation in this industrial estate and address the growing issues.
Over the past decade, many projects have closed, and no new ones have been initiated.
A thorough survey is needed, and steps should be taken to resolve these longstanding issues, as demanded by the workers in the estate.
