MAPUSA
Blaming the NGPDA for delaying approvals to projects in Mapusa, a councillor has demanded a separate Planning Development Authority (PDA) for Mapusa constituency.
“Our files are not moving in the NGPDA and many projects are pending. We do not get approvals from the NGPDA for many Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) projects,” said Swapnil Shirodkar, a councillor from the ruling group.
In a letter written to MMC Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar, the councillor has requested the chairperson to include the demand for a separate PDA in the agenda of the next council meeting for discussion and approval.
When contacted, the Chairperson first said that he has not received any such letter but soon added that it may have been inwarded at the council office.
“We have not included the demand in the council agenda. Like that, a person can make any demand. It’s not necessary for us to include everything in the agenda,” Kavlekar said.
Interestingly, the councillor has also demanded appointing of the Head Clerk from a government department on deputation in order to streamline the administration.
“It has been noticed the present Head Clerk and other staff in the council are hand-in-glove with some selfish activists visiting this council, who create nuisance and disturb the routine functioning of this council,” Shirodkar said.
He further said that some important files were found missing and the chairperson along with chief officer should take strict action in such cases, including filing a police complaint.
Interestingly, the councillor said a lot of class IV workers have been assigned jobs as supervisors, drivers and even clerical work depending on the worker’s closeness to councillors.
“All the workers designated as supervisors, drivers, clerks should be deputed in the wards as workers since there is shortage of class IV workers,” he said.
