Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday assured the House that the Rules for Gaming Commission to regulate casinos will be notified by December this year. After this assurance the private members resolution moved by the MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was withdrawn.
“I entirely agree with MLA Reginaldo and we will ensure that by this December we get rules for Gaming Commission notified and then Gaming Commissioner can be appointed”, CM said.
Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco had moved a private member resolution to appoint a Gaming Commissioner to check persons entering in designated gaming areas without tourist permit.
Speaking on the resolution MLA Lourenco said we need a good Gaming Commission which will act on all issues related to Casinos from licencing, regulation and policing firmly, adding that there should be checks and balances on the sector.
“Pay out ratios and a lot of other issues, including social responsibility need to be regulated,” Lourenco said, adding that a large number of Goan youth were getting hooked
to the vice.
He said, the Nevada Gaming Commission in the United States was a good model that could be emulated.
He also pointed that casino advertisements are not removed and because of this a wrong image of Goa is portrayed to the world.
“Even outside the airport you can see casino hoardings”, he pointed out.
Speaking on the resolution Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro stressed the need for Gaming Commission.
Opposing casinos he said “People from casinos are occupying the VIP seats in I-league. We have to change the name VIP gallery to casino gamblers gallery,”
he quipped.
