Covid centres to come up at Margao, Fatorda

A meeting convened by the Incident Commandant for Margao and Margao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes has decided to set up Covid care centres at Margao and Fatorda.

The care centres will be initially equipped with 25 beds and provision for oxygen.

The meeting which was attended by the three MLAs representing Margao municipal areas, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco discussed ways and means to contain the surge in the number of cases in the Margao municipal area and alleviate the hardships faced by the suffering people. Prominent city-based doctor Dr Milind Dessai also attended the meeting.

“It has been decided to set up two Covid care centres, each at Margao and Fatorda initially with 25 beds each with oxygen provision. Each centre would require 10 staff. Places identified for the Covid centres include the Manohar Parrikar Stadium Navelim and Nehru Stadium Fatorda. Infrastructure required at these places will be worked out”, informed the MMC Chief Officer.

He said the meeting also decided to rope in private doctors from IMA and other organisations including private clinics. 

“Each 25 bedded centre will require beds, oxygen concentrators and other facilities which will be put in place by way of municipal funds and CSR funds from philanthropy organisation from Margao and elsewhere”, he added.

On the occasion, two oxygen concentrators were donated by Sunil Barua CEO of Logistic Company for the cause. All those attending the meeting thanked the first philanthropists for this great cause.

Others are also requested to contribute voluntarily to this good cause to save lives of the people in need.
