Illegal sale of fish raises stink

MARGAO
The Western bypass along the Nuvem stretch has become a stopgap wholesale fish market, thanks to the crackdown launched by the Fatorda and Colva police against illegal sale of fish outside the SGPDA wholesale fish market.

If the coordinated action by the Fatorda police and their Colva counterparts stopped the illegal sale of fish along the wholesale fish road on Friday, Saturday saw unscrupulous fish traders shifting their activity from the wholesale fish market road to the western bypass along the Nuvem-Verna stretch.

While the Colva and Fatorda police ensured that fish vehicles do not unload any fish along the wholesale fish market road, some of the fish traders shifted their business activity on the western bypass to escape the whip launched by the police.

Sources in the know informed that though the wholesale fish market has been closed for business till

May 10 in view of the surge in COVID cases, some of the traders importing fish from Maharashtra has been engaged in the business in the last couple of days.
