Seven more patients lost their lives at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim due to Covid-19 taking the death toll of the state to 236. No casualties were reported at ESI Covid Hospital in the last 24 hours.
The mortality bulletin of the Health Department, which is being compiled but has yet to be released through official channels, informed that two of the deceased patients passed away within 24 hours of being admitted to GMC.
All seven patients suffered from co-morbidities.A 42 year-old man from Vaddem in Vasco, who was admitted on August 19 with bronchial asthma, passed away after he developed bilateral pneumonia, which was the immediate cause of death. This condition has been listed as the immediate cause of death for three other fatalities including a 70-year-old man from Panaji and a 65-year-old man Bicholim, both of whom had diabetes and hypertension and a 75-year-old man from Porvorim who suffered from diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidism and ischemic heart disease.
One of the deceased persons, a 60-year-old man from Bicholim, who suffered from acute chronic kidney disease, hypertension and diabetes, developed bilateral pneumonia and later passed away due to septic shock.
The immediate cause of death in two cases was acute respiratory distress syndrome. These include a 55 year-old woman from Sancoale and a 67-year-old man from Shiroda in Ponda, both of whom had developed bilateral pneumonia.
Meanwhile, a total of 374 new cases of the infection have been recorded in the last 24 hours taking the active tally to 4,754. Of these, 212 are under home isolation. Till date, 20,829 cases have been confirmed in the state of which 15,839 have recovered.
As per the daily bulletin, 162 beds from the total 545 are vacant in Covid Care Centers in North Goa while in South Goa, 380 beds from 1,006 are vacant.
