VASCO
WithCovid cases now on the decline in Mormugao taluka, many residents in the porttown believe that history may repeat itself after 120 long years.
Mormugaotaluka, which includes the Vasco Urban Health Centre and Cortalim PrimaryHealth Centre, had a number of containment zones and had been on top of thelist of the official Covid bulletins with as high as 800-odd cases in therecent past.
However, latest bulletins now suggest that Covid active cases in the taluka have droppedsignificantly to about 300 cases.
Thedrop in Covid cases has prompted authorities to de-seal two major containmentzones at Mangor and Kharewado as well as micro containment zones in Baina andSada areas.
"Slowlybut surely, Vasco city is opening up again and while we had been looked upon asbrand ambassadors for spreading Covid cases, we are now looked upon as CovidAngels. Within a month of the Damodar Saptah, Covid cases are on the sharpdecline,” said a resident, Anant Prabhu.
“Whilethe Cortalim PHC had around 400-odd cases, the recent health bulletin suggeststhere are only 80 active cases, which is a huge decline. Mangor area which wasa Covid hotspot has no cases at all now and we may also have the highest numberof recoveries.”
“VascoUHC, which once had 400-odd cases is now down to 200 cases. The city willsurely win the battle against Covid like how the city had overcome a dreadeddisease 120 years ago," said Prabhu.
Anotherresident, Anita Pai, said the Zuarinagar containment zone, which was Goa'sbiggest slum area, had also seen a huge decline in Covic cases and now hasaround 20-odd active cases, with chances of being de-sealed soon.
“Thisdrop in Covid cases has to be divine blessing on residents of Mormugao. Whilemany unfortunately succumbed to Covid mainly due to co-morbid conditions, recoveries in the entire Mormugao taluka have been very high.”
“Whilea special Kaul had been brought from Shree Damodar temple Zambaulim and placedin Vasco Damodar Mandir to invoke divine blessings, heavy showers during SaptahSamapti were also looked upon as a good omen and Lord Damodar’s blessings whichis now slowly taking shape," said Pai.
