The Health Minister on Wednesday said that an emergency meeting has been convened under the Director of Health and Dean of Goa Medical College and Hospital to seek expert medical opinion on the measures to be adopted with the Covid cases skyrocketing in Goa.
“In view of the rising Covid-19 cases, there has been a significant jump from 112 (December 28) to 170 today, similar to the rise that occurred in April-May 2021. I have suggested to Director of Health and Dean GMC to convene an emergency meeting with expert doctors to suggest measures,” the Health minister stated.
He further said that being a tourist State, it is very important that Goa government protects the citizens as well as the tourists. “The government is driven by expert advice of the doctors. We are waiting for them to deliberate and make concrete suggestions. This will help us to be in a better position to take appropriate action in light of the increasing number of cases,” the Health Minister said.
170 new infections, positivity @5.25%
PANAJI: The State saw a big jump in Covid infections with 170 new cases and the positivity rate jumping to 5.25 per cent on Wednesday. This is highest single-day infection in five and half months. Out of the 3,237 samples, 170 came positive for Covid. With 48 recoveries active the count now stands at 657. Panaji recorded maximum caseload with 90 cases followed by Margao’s 67. No Covid deaths were recorded.
