A couple of crorepati and lakhpati candidates walked into the office of Returning Officers for Salcete taluka to file their nomination papers on Tuesday.
The candidates include sitting BJP MLA Clafasio Dias (Cuncolim), former MLA and Congress candidate Avertano Furtado (Navelim), Aam Aadmi Party candidates Pratima Coutinho (Navelim) and Prashant Naik (Cuncolim), besides Revolutionary Goans party candidate Wilson Peter Cardozo (Cuncolim), who have all shown their assets running into lakhs and crores.
A glance at the affidavits filed by these candidates reveals that together with the assets held by the spouse, these candidates have pegged their assets in lakhs and crores.
Take the case of former Independent MLA Avertano Furtado. He has shown his moveable asset pegged at Rs 78.86 lakh, while that of his spouse Rs 37.16 lakh. The current value of Avertano’s immovable properties is pegged at Rs 5.55 crore. The properties include joint ownership with the spouse on account of the Portuguese law of communion of assets.
In the affidavit, Avertano has claimed that he owns as many as 10 vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelrs.
Sitting Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias’ movable assets have been pegged around Rs 1.22 crore, while that of his spouse is at Rs 1.69 crore. He owns immovable properties valued at around Rs 3.85 crore, while that of his spouse Rs 53.60 lakh.
Aam Aadmi Party Cuncolim candidate Prashant Naik, who is a real estate developer, has shown his moveable assets as Rs 40.13 lakh and that of his spouse Rs 22.85 lakh. His immovable properties are pegged around Rs 3.75 crore.
AAP’s Navelim candidate Pratima Coutinho has pegged her moveable assets to Rs 17.49 lakh and that of her spouse Rs 52.82 lakh. Her immovable assets are pegged at Rs 9.23 lakh and that of her spouse Rs 1.37 crore.
Revolutionary Goans Party's Cuncolim candidate Wilson Cardozo has shown his moveable assets as Rs 13.45 lakh and that of his spouse at Rs two lakhs. His immovable assets are pegged at Rs 1.85 crore and that of his spouse Rs 24 lakh.
Trinamool Congress Margao candidate Mahesh Amonkar has declared the value of his moveable assets to Rs 25.90 lakh and that of his spouse Rs 12.85 lakh.
