Cruise boats, casino vessels in Mandovi face ban on bright lights

The Director of Transport has written to the Captain of Ports to issue "necessary direction" to ensure that vessels plying in the River Mandovi do not use high-intensity focus lights, tracers in view of the fact that the lights can be a major distraction to motorists and drivers along the Dayanand Bandodkar Marg in Panaji as well as the two Mandovi bridges.
Nikhil Desai, the director of transport in his letter has said that the practice of using bright tracer lights can be a sour
ce of significant distraction for drivers, raising the possibility of fatal accidents "thereby endangering the life and property of the motorists and pedestrians."
Over the festive weekend, several river cruise boats and casino vessels hosted daily parties on board and used attractive high-intensity strobe lighting as well as tracers pointing skywards.
Similar directions were issued earlier too but were soon forgotten.
