Cuncolim council VC under BJP cell scanner

MARGAO

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s brother-in-law and Cuncolim Municipal Council Vice-Chairperson, Virendra Desai, has come under the scanner of the President of the Cuncolim constituency's BJP minority cell and councillor Polita Carneiro.

After having lost last week’s election for the CMC chairperson, Polita, a former CMC chief, has now dashed off a letter to the BJP state President Sadanand Tanavade charging Virendra for getting Succorina Coutinho elected as CMC Chairperson.

Polita has charged Virendra for electing a Congress candidate as CMC Chairperson. “Virendra Desai is not above the party to act the way he wants by misusing the authority and power of the name of the Chief Minister, who is doing good job in the interest of Goan society,” she said.

Virendra, however, rubbished the allegations made by the party minority cell president and CMC councillor. “There’s no question of misusing the power and authority of the Chief Minster. The allegations levelled against me are baseless. I do not want to go into the issue whether the newly-elected CMC chief is Congress or not, but Polita should explain why she was quiet when Succorina was elected unopposed as the CMC chief three months ago,” he said.

He further demanded to know whether all the women, who became CMC chairpersons via rotation of the chair, were all BJP members, adding that Polita did not raise any objections then.

Sources in the know say that State BJP President Sadanand Tanavade is believed to have called up Virendra and discussed the points raised by Polita.
