The Cuncolim unit of the BJP appears upbeat over the swearing in of Dr Pramod Sawant as the new Chief Minister. Local city fathers too also look forward to use Dr Sawant’s good office to bring many a development project in the historic village.
The new Chief Minister has a connection with the historic village, apart from being a member of the BJP cadre. Not only is his sister married in Cuncolim but his brother-in-law Videsh Desai is the incumbent Vice-chairperson of the Cuncolim Municipal Council.
Being the new Chief Minister’s close relative, Videsh and his family from Cuncolim were prominently seated in the Cabo Raj Niwas when Dr Pramod was sworn in as the CM past midnight. “It’s a proud moment for the people of Cuncolim as well with Dr Pramod sworn in as the Chief Minister of Goa,” Videsh said
In the past, Dr Pramod had helped me and the local Cuncolim Municipal Council to get our works done, especially relating to Urban Development and the DMA, he stated and added that the CMC will certainly approach the new CM with the issues plaguing the town.
Ex-Cuncolim MLA and BJP leader Rajan Naik recalled that Dr Pramod had extended his help and assistance to Cuncolim constituency when the latter was holding the fort of the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC). “Through Dr Pramod’s assistance, I could take up and execute a host of works in Cuncolim during my tenure as MLA. We have no problem in approaching the new CM with the problems plaguing Cuncolim and I am confident that Dr Pramod will not say no to the requests of Cuncolkars on the development front,” Rajan said.
The ex-MLA further pointed out that Dr Pramod always extended his helping hand whenever he was approached by the local BJP workers or councillors during his stint as Speaker.
Cuncolim Municipal Councillor and former Vice-chairperson Mario Moraes informed that the council under the leadership of Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas will collectively approach the new CM with the administrative building complex proposal. He pointed out that the consultant has already designed the plans of the administrative building and has prepared the estimate, which is expected to cost the state exchequer a whopping Rs 33 crore.
“The Cuncolim Municipal Council will request Dr Pramod to sanction the administrative building complex as a gift for Cuncolim. Once completed, the complex will help in bringing all government departments under one roof,” he said.
The ground-plus three storied administrative complex proposed on the land acquired opposite the Cuncolim bus stand will also house the CMC building.
