Locals have expressed anger and at the same time fear over youth on bikes who indulge in motorbike stunts and racing on the San Jacinto Island bridge which connects to the NH17A.
They are bitterly complaining that the unruly youth are endangering the lives of others, especially tourists who come to the island to enjoy its beauty.
Apart from a risk to visitors, these bikers are playing with their own lives, they added.
The locals have now demanded police patrolling in the area to deter such activities, which have resurfaced after a gap.
They complained that many people are using the bridge as a place to drink in the open and leave the bottles behind. Even couples are seen spending time till late in the night, they added.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said police must take strong steps to deter bike stunts on the bridge and also check breaking of beer bottles, which
ultimately land in the water below.
There have been instances when locals have got into quarrels with the miscreants, he added.
He said earlier there have been fights and quarrels on the bridge and most of these are due to drinking.
“But after police started picking up troublemakers at nights, everything stopped and we had our peace of mind. However, recently, bike witness stunts, loud music at nights, fights, have come back to haunt us,” he stated.
