Calls for major projects in the State to be named in honour of former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar have already begun, with Murgao Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti (MNSS) demanding the new Zuari Bridge to be named ‘Manohar Setu’ in memory of the leader who passed away on Sunday.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, MNSS Vice President and journalist Sudesh Bhosle said naming the new Zuari Bridge as “Manohar Setu” would be a befitting homage to the departed soul.
“The new Zuari Bridge project, which connects North and South districts, was the brainchild of Parrikar and the project is half completed. Late Parrikar would personally follow up on construction work of the new Zuari Bridge from time to time. Parrikar was a visionary leader who thought of transforming Goa in all dimensions,” said Bhosle.
“The new Zuari Bridge will be the second longest cable-stayed bridge in the country after the Vidyasagar Setu in Kolkata.”
“The state government led by Chief Minister Dr Sawant should take immediate cognizance of the importance of the project and should discuss with his cabinet colleagues and BJP central leaders to name new Zuari Bridge as ‘Manohar Setu’.”
“As the model code of conduct is under implementation in view of Lok Sabha elections, the State government should consider the demands of the people in naming the new Zuari bridge after Parrikar, as mark of respect and homage, after the code of conduct is lifted,” added Bhosle.
