A leakage at a joint of the Selaulim water pipeline at Sonsodo saw disruption in the supply of water to many areas on Tuesday.

The leakage on the old pipeline had come to light on Monday evening. Since the leakage threatened major disruption of water supply to entire South Goa, PWD officials swung into action on Tuesday morning to plug it.

PWD Executive Engineer, Anant Gaonkar, told the media at the site that the leakage at the joint of the pipeline at Sonsodo, which was noticed on Monday, was being repaired by the PWD.

“Since the leakage occurred on the joint, we had not option than to shut down the supply of water. It will take us at least 5-6 hours to plug it,” Gaonkar said, while exuding confidence that work will be complete by evening and water supply resumed the

same evening.

He, however, said some areas in Quepem and parts of Salcete may witness water shortage during the period, adding that the 100 MLD water treatment plant at Selualim was operating in full swing and will meet the requirements of any

shortage.

While the government has replaced the old water pipeline from Selaulim to Gogol, the old line passing through Sonsodo continues to supply to the pumping station at

Verna.

PWD sources informed that it takes around eight hours for the water to reach Margao after the water supply is resumed from the Selaulim water treatment plant.
