The Curca panchayat authorities were questioned when the bio-digester toilets would be made available to the locals who had applied for it.
“The panchayat has declared the village as ODF, but till date no toilets have been provided,” Rama Kankonkar stated.
To this, panchayat secretary Rajendra Gawas stated that he had signed the form declaring the village as ODF on the promise that toilets would be provided to the villagers.
“I have raised the issue with the authorities who have now promised that the same would be provided by December-end,” Gawas stated.
The issue of notices for disconnection of water and electricity connections over sewage disposal in the drains was also discussed with the locals highlighting that they are not in a position to build soak pits due to lack of space.
“There are four to five families living in one house and there is not enough space to build soakpit,” a villager pointed out while seeking the panchayat’s help in the matter.
However, secretary Gawas stated that the notices have been served to the villagers due to an NGT order.
“Wherever possible people should build soak pits to comply with the directives. In Nauxim, 99% households have already complied,” he added.
The panchayat informed that the local MLA Francisco Silveira has been apprised of the situation and a proposal has also been sent to the Sewerage Corporation for setting up of STP wherever possible.
“The panchayat is also thinking of building community soak pits but people should cooperate,” the authorities stated.
