the goan I networkrCURCHOREM rrAccording to sources, Umesh Naik, a contractor and bar owner, had gone on a pilgrimage trip to Vaishno Devi with the help of a travel agent from Margao on July 5. He was also accompanied by other 13 persons during the journey. rOn July 9, the group reached Katra city in Jammu and Kashmir and checked in a hotel to take rest. rNaik complained of uneasiness and refused to travel forward at Vaishno Devi. All the other persons went to pilgrimage in the wee hours of July 10, while Naik and the agent stayed back at Katra. rLater, Naik made repeated demands to return back to Goa, but since it was not possible for the agent to do so, the agent took Naik in a restaurant so he would agree to stay back in Katra. rAfter having breakfast in the restaurant, both were returning back to the hotel, when Naik mysteriously went missing. Later, the agent contacted the Naik family and narrated the incident. rThe Naik family met South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik and apprised him about the incident. The Collector wrote a letter to Sub Judicial Magistrate of Riasi district of Kashmir and filed a missing complaint. rSuspecting foul play, the Naik family said the day before Naik went missing, he spoke to his sister. “We cannot get clear information from the agent and other travellers. He went with a lot of cash for the tour and went missing without his belongings,” said Naik’s sister.
