Residents of Curchorem have expressed serious concern over a large heap of stones left unattended along the roadside following the suspension of a road widening project.
The debris, reportedly left behind after excavation work, has become a potential hazard for motorists and pedestrians using the stretch.
Locals complained that the road widening work has remained incomplete for a considerable period, with no visible progress at the site.
The pile of stones has been left without adequate warning signs, reflective markers, or safety barricades, increasing the risk of accidents, particularly during night-time and adverse weather conditions.
Regular commuters have pointed out that the obstruction narrows the available road space and poses a significant danger to two-wheeler riders, cyclists, and pedestrians. During the monsoon season, poor visibility and waterlogging around the debris further aggravate the situation.
Residents have alleged that despite repeated concerns, the obstruction continues to remain on the roadside, creating inconvenience and safety risks for daily commuters. They have urged the Public Works Department (PWD) and concerned authorities to immediately remove the stone pile, install proper cautionary signage, and expedite the pending road widening work.
They have also called for regular monitoring of ongoing infrastructure projects to ensure that public safety is not compromised due to incomplete works or unattended construction materials.
