The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Goa Police, probing the large-scale fraud in land deals, has expedited action against the accused with yet another arrest, this time of a politician.
Sandeep Vazarkar, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader who unsuccessfully contested the Porvorim seat in the 2022 Assembly polls, is charged with forging documents of a property located in Sangolda and cheating a couple of Rs 27 lakh by an agreement for sale.
Vazarkar, who was arrested on Friday morning by SIT, was later granted bail over Rs 50,000 personal bond and two sureties of Rs 25,000 each.
SIT SP Nidhin Valsan informed the media that Vazarkar dishonestly induced Purshottam Agarwal to buy landed property in survey number 21/31 of Sangolda and fraudulently carried out the documentary and monetary transactions towards the sale between November 10, 2018, and August 31, 2021.
Vazarkar also transferred legal rights in respect of property in the name of the complainant and his wife Laxmi by way of the sale agreement. The victims paid Rs 27 lakh through various transactions to the politician. On realizing they were cheated, the victims lodged a complaint with Goa Police that was eventually transferred to the SIT.
The SIT claimed that the accused is involved in similar property-related offences.
