A rider sustained grievous injuries after his two-wheeler landed in a pit dug by the PWD to repair water leakage on the Navelim-Rawanfond road on late Friday.
The incident only raised an uproar in the locality with residents of Aquem-Baixo questioning the PWD for leaving the pit without barricades, resulting in the mishap.
A resident of Aquem-Baixo Julio Quadros pointed out that the place where the accident took place late Friday evening has no illumination. “The junior engineers of the PWD and the electricity department should work in coordination not only to restore the pit, but to ensure illumination of the road,” he said, claiming that the streetlights at the accident spots have been non-functional for a long time.
Residents demanded to know why the PWD did not restore the pit excavated to fix the water leakage issues, saying even the barricade which was found around the spot, has gone missing on Friday.
“Even during day time, the school students, who take the road to reach the schools in Navelim, face the danger of landing in the pit left unattended by the PWD,” the residents pointed out.
The two-wheeler rider is believed to have sustained injuries on the face and head, besides injuries on his hand and legs. He was rushed to the hospital by a private vehicle.
