The Curtorim village panchayat has outright rejected the request received from Tata Power seeking grant of license for the distribution of electricity under provisions of Section 14 & 15 of the Electricity Act, 2003.

Sources said the proposal was rejected by the panchayat for want of clarity. In fact, the panchayat pointed out that there was no clarity in the proposal made by Tata Power since the company has approached the panchayat without the government’s sanction.

“The panchayat has written a letter to company as well as the authorities informing of the decision on the rejection of the application. The request was rejected after members pointed out that the company has not approached the panchayat through the government mechanism”, sources said.

Sources added: “There was no clarity in the proposal made by the private company. Hence, the request was rejected and the panchayat has told the company to come with clarity on the issue”.

Meanwhile, accusing the BJP government for putting Goa on sale, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesdai demanded that both Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar clarify on Tata Power’s plan to take up distribution of power in the State.

The Goa Forward Chief went on to say that Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes had raised strong objection to Tata Power’s proposal, lamenting that the proposal is sought to be pushed through the backdoor.
