Cyber fraudster dupes Velim resident of Rs 2.23 lakh

A resident of Velim has been cheated of Rs 2.23 lakh by an unknown accused.

The Cuncolim Police have registered an FIR against the unknown accused for cheating.

In her complaint, Aruna Fernandes, a resident of Pimplafoll, Velim, stated that on May 26, an unknown person contacted her through WhatsApp.

The accused induced the complainant to download an application sent via WhatsApp, claiming it was required to pay the pending domestic gas bill for her house.

Believing the claim, the complainant downloaded the application and provided her bank account number and card details. The accused subsequently withdrew Rs 2,23,200 in multiple transactions from the bank accounts of the complainant, her husband and her son. Police are investigating the case.
