Residents of Dabolim have demanded the immediate inauguration of the traffic circle at Vales junction for motorists.
Stating that the traffic circle at Vales junction in Dabolim was ready but not yet inaugurated, the aggrieved locals said motorists are forced to go all the way to the MES college junction and negotiate a turn to come back to the Vales junction.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Dabolim Congress Block President Francisco Nunes said the highway authorities had completed the traffic circle at Vales junction but it was not formally thrown open to the public, thereby causing hardship to motorists.
“A lot of money has been spent on the traffic circle and NHAI has completed the project, but I wonder why it has not been opened to public use as yet,” said Nunes.
“A lot of vehicles, especially taxis, go from the internal MES college road and lives can be put to risk. The streetlights along the highway also are not operational. We cannot wait for more lives to be lost and the traffic circle must be inaugurated immediately,” said Nunes.
Sanjeev Mashelkar of Alto-Dabolim said the non-operational traffic circle at Vales junction had caused inconvenience to around 4,000 residents at Alto-Dabolim.
“We had hoped the traffic circle would be inaugurated on August 2, the birthday of Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho. We had even approached Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to address our issues. If the circle is made operational, it will save on fuel and time,” said Mashelkar.
