CANACONA
Heavy rains caused many problems in Canacona recently. Uprooted trees blocked roads and damaging the electricity lines. The electricity department says they lost over Rs 7 lakhs because of this.
Around 15 electricity poles broke and the lines got damaged in places like Khola, Agonda, Galgibhaga, Potke (Poinguinim), Loliem-Polem, Gaondongrim, and Gulem. This caused power cuts several times.
The rainfall was really heavy, with over 100 mm recorded in just two days. Fire services were busy clearing fallen trees from the roads. They had to deal with trees blocking the NH66 road near Polem Checkpost, Hathipaul (near Forest gate), near Partagal Temple, and at Goynadal. A mud wall collapsed at an empty house in Mastimol, and there was a big landslide at Ambdem in Khola village.
In Marlim, there was also a problem with a damaged electricity line that had to be fixed.
The rivers in Canacona, like Galgibaga, Talpona, and Saleri, are flowing very fast now because of all the heavy rain. This has also affected smaller streams and waterways in the area.
