He also termed as false and baseless claims made by Santa Cruz MLA Babush Monserrate that he was framed up in the alleged minor rape case, saying that the government did not interfere in the investigation. Damu further asserted that the BJP-led alliance is confident of winning 26 seats in the 2017 Assembly elections, asserting that the party will regain the Fatorda seat presently held by Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai.
Addressing the media, the BJP general secretary threw a gauntlet at the GPCC president to come for  a one-on-one debate on the issues of development and inflation. “The Congress party is only making an issue on development and inflation. We are ready for a debate with Faleiro with all facts and figures relating to the last four-year period and the seven-and-half year rule by the Congress,” Damu said.
He said the Congress has become a laughing stock in the minds of the people of Goa as the party has roped in AICC general secretary Digvijai Singh to lead the protest rally. “It is sad that the local Congress leadership has been forced to get a leader from Madhya Pradesh to lead the rally. This only goes to show the Congress state of affairs in the state,” he added. Damu pointed out that despite financial constraints, the government has been able to finance various schemes and also pay salaries of thousands of government servants. “The government has also taken up a host of projects, mostly signature projects across the state during the last four years,” he said, adding that the government has taken up construction of the convention centre, has set in motion the construction of Mopa airport,
besides roads.
Replying to a question pertaining to Fatorda, Damu said that he has realized the mistakes committed during his tenure, while exuding confidence that people will vote for the BJP in the coming election.
