The Davorlim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to initiate action against a scrapyard in the village.
At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sahar Sheikh, members demanded to know from the sarpanch the steps initiated by the panchayat against the scrapyard in question which has been causing nuisance to the villagers.
The sarpanch replied back saying the panchayat has already issued a notice to the party, which has now sought one month’s time to clear the yard. The sarpanch warned that the panchayat would send the proposal to the BDO to requisition the services of the demolition squad in the event the party does not clear the scrapyard within the time frame.
Members also raised the question over the encroachment into river Sal, demanding to know the steps taken by the panchayat body against the encroachments.
The sarpanch replied saying the panchayat has already issued a stop-work notice on the encroachment, adding that the panchayat has written a letter to the Water Resources Department to ascertain whether the structure has come up in the setback area of the river.
