MAPUSA
“No water for the last five days,” wrote an official of the Goa Urban Cooperative Bank, Mapusa, branch in the complaint book at the PWD office in Mapusa on Friday.
Mapusa Police Station and the staff residing in the police quarters have not received water for the last eight days.
“We have not received water for the last four days and even otherwise we don’t receive water at a fixed time. Please do the needful,” pleaded Giri Thali, a resident of Ansabhat, Mapusa.
These are not isolated cases, as several parts of Mapusa continued to face water problem, even as PWD was struggling to meet the 20 MLD water requirement that keeps the city running.
Agitated residents met Assistant Engineer, PWD, Mapusa, Subhash Belgaonkar on Friday and demanded restoration of supply on priority.
“We have not received water for the last four days in our area and these engineers keep on bluffing us. This government is dead. No one is bothered about the common man,” said Sanjay Barde, NCP secretary and a resident of Khorlim, Mapusa.
He warned the AE that he will return back on Monday with a bigger crowd if water was not supplied to Khorlim area by Friday evening.
Camurlim residents led by Sarpanch Vishant Gaonkar also met the PWD AE and urged him to release water in the village.
“The entire village of Camurlim has not received water for the last four days. How long are we supposed to bear this?” an agitated Gaonkar asked. He too warned the AE that he will return back if the department fails to release water in the village by Friday evening.
The Camurlim sarpanch informed The Goan that water was released in the Camurlim overhead tank but the pressure was very slow.
“We (locals) are here near the tank along with the junior engineer and monitoring the situation. We hope we get adequate water in the tank,” he said.
Several people in Calangute were also not getting adequate supply and were planning to march to the PWD office if condition did not improve.
Meanwhile, sources informed that around 85 percent of water was produced at the Assonora treatment plant.
The Assonora WTP produced 110 MLD of water per day which has now dropped to 90 MLD per day.
