PANAJI: A little over a year after the implementation of State government's flagship scheme - Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DDSSY), private hospitals have earned nearly Rs 44 crore while State government-run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) has merely gained nearly Rs 22 crore through the various procedures conducted under the Scheme.
Nearly 18,000 persons in the State have benefitted from the scheme, while a population of 7.5 lakh Goans have been covered under it. Currently, the 447 procedures listed under the scheme are available across 46 hospitals empanelled which include 5 government-run and 32 private and 9 from outside Goa.
Speaking to The Goan Everyday, DDSSY Consultant Dr Balkrishna Vassant Pai informed, "In all, 17,706 procedures have been conducted under the scheme till date. Of these, 3,582 have been carried out in GMC, Bambolim for which it has earned nearly Rs 22 crore. About 13,952 have been conducted in private hospitals in the State which have been empanelled under the scheme for which they have earned Rs 44 crore. Nonetheless, 172 procedures have been conducted in hospitals outside the State for which they have earned Rs 1.72 crore."
Nonetheless, cards of 7,195 families which were enrolled under the scheme will be destroyed as they remain unclaimed with the Goa Electronics Limited (GEL).
The State Government has extended the scheme by another three months up to February 2018, mainly to conduct its review. The renewal of the existing cards too has been extended to December 31 as nearly 30,000 families are yet to renew their cards.
