While Serafin Cota defined ‘Goemkarponn’ as related to habits, particularly the emotional aspect of Goans, Prashant Naik of Goa Forward claimed the existence of Unity in Diversity in Goa, even as he expressed fears about Goans being reduced to a minority in Goa by the year 2040-2045.
Savio Lopes of FORCE defined Goemkarponn as love, unity and brotherhood. He claimed the existence of divisions in Goans which could destroy Goemkarponn. “There are many groups fighting for Konkani,” he remarked.
Safira D’Costa, a student, termed Goan as “Sussegad”, even as she defined “Sussegad” as being self-content.
Tiatrist Mariano Fernandes mentioned how many Goans have surrendered their passports and have migrated to Great Britain. Yugank Naik said there can be no definition of ‘Goemkarponn’.
On the question as to whether Goans will be in a minority, Cota claimed that one has to make oneself a good Goan. Prashant Naik said migrants are getting their own culture in Goa which results in a clash between two geographical communities.
On whether this would lead to a conflict of interest, Savio Lopes said outsiders are being used for political reasons.
On the issue of managing conflicts, Mariano Fernandes said politicians give preference to non-Goans while Safira D’Costa spoke about Goan students being in a minority in a college.
