Chief Minister on Friday assured the house that after a thorough study and considering farmers’ point of view, a proper decision will be taken on the government-owned Sanjivani Sugar Factory.
“Sanjivani sugar factory is in loss of rupees 102 crores at present. We have to check the viability of this factory. For that we will take all the farmers into confidence and take a proper decision”, Sawant said in the assembly.”
“Director of agriculture has been told to study about how many farmers are dependent on this and what is the alternative,”added Sawant.
Interfering in the CM speech, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Lourenco demanded that farmers should be given last year subsidies which have not yet been given.
While assuring that nationalization of jetties is not for coal handling, Sawant said that the jetties have been built only for tourism but not for handling coal. “MLA Glen has raised an issue about jetties. Jetties will be used for tourism and not for coal handling, don’t worry.”
“Nationalisation does not mean the rivers (navigation) will go out of control of the state. Instead, the state rivers will be preserved”,
said CM.
Sawant also said that issues related to GST will be stabilised in the next 3 years. He went to say that the dates of National Games will be finalized by Tuesday.
He said that the State is regularly investing in a corpus consolidated fund, which is at presently Rs 603.54 crore and a corpus guarantee redeemed fund, which is Rs 303.90 crore presently, which will act as safety for the State.
