The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found at the municipal crematorium at Pernem on Tuesday.
According to reports, the incident came to light when a family had gone to the crematorium in Pernem to perform the final rites of a deceased relative. As the municipal employees opened the entrance to the crematorium, they noticed the decomposed body of an unknown person inside. The employees then notified the Pernem police.
A police team went to the site and after a panchanama, sent the body for an autopsy at the GMC hospital at Bambolim. Police said the deceased, believed to be in his mid-sixties, appeared to be homeless and no items were found near the body.
Investigations are underway to identify the deceased and to ascertain how he had reached the crematorium. Pernem PSI Aditya Gad is conducting further enquiries into the case.
