Delhi student killed after coming under wheels of bus

A holiday trip for six BBA students from Delhi ended in tragedy, after one of their colleagues was killed in a road mishap at Gauravado-Calangute on Friday evening.  

The deceased, Sonal Gupta (20), died on the spot after the scooter she was riding pillion hit an oncoming Karnataka-registered bus. The deceased girl, who was thrown on the road, came under the wheels of the moving bus.  

According to Calangute Police, the six students had arrived in Goa on January 8 and were putting up in a hotel in Calangute.  

“On Friday, they were moving around the place on two-wheelers when suddenly at around 2.50 pm the scooter ridden by Shivam Nagpal (21) with the deceased as pillion was dashed by a bus near Curry House restaurant at Gauravado on the main road,” Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi said.  

“The rider was thrown off the road while the girl fell on the road and was run over by the rear wheels of the bus,” he added. An offence under Sections 279, 304-A of the IPC has been registered against the driver and Calangute police are investigating the case.
