Chairman of the Goa Haj Committee Urfan Mulla on Sunday made a fervent plea to the Goa government to include places of worship of Muslim community under the Dev Darshan scheme.
Mulla also called for an early resolution of the issue of burial grounds affecting the Muslim community at Margao and adjoining areas.
At an Iftar party hosted by the Goa Haj Committee on Sunday, the Chairman made the request to BJP President Damu Naik, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat and Commissioner NRI Affairs, Narendra Sawaikar to consider extending the Dev Darshan scheme to Muslims going on a pilgrimage to Ajmer and in Kerala. “When the Dev Darshan scheme provides facilities for devotees on pilgrimage to Vailankanni and other Hindu places of worship, the government should consider extending the scheme for the Muslim community as well,” he said.
On the vexed Kabrastan issue, Mulla recalled that PWD Minister Digambar Kamat had acquired land for the proposed kabrastan at Sonsodo over a decade and half ago. He, however, said the issue could not be resolved after Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai shifted the proposed kabrastan site to an area adjoining the River Sal. “Muslims have been demanding a site for kabrastan for the last 30 years. I request both Digambar Kamat and Damu Naik to resolve the issue at the earliest and give relief to the Muslim community facing space crunch at the existing Pajifond kabrastan,” he added.
Showering praises on BJP President Damu Naik for playing a crucial role in the reopening of the Sunni Gulistan Mosque after a murder, Mulla thanked Damu for his kind gesture which helped the Muslim community to offer prayers during the Holy month of Ramzan.
The Haj Committee Chairman took the platform of the Iftar party to give a call to the BJP State president to contest from Fatorda in the 2027 election.
“People of Fatorda are aware of the jobs provided by Damu to the unemployed youth. The time has come for him to contest the coming election. Damu has given a slogan that the BJP will win 30 seats in 2027. Damu should contest the election and go to the Assembly and play his role for the development of Goa. Support from PWD Minister Digambar Kamat will make Damu’s election easy,” he said.
Mulla demanded the resignation of Goa Forward chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai over the decision the panel to set aside the caste certificate of Margao Municipal Goa Forward councillor Pooja Naik.
“Sardesai has been accusing others for availing benefits by forging documents. The decision to set aside the caste certificate and subsequent disqualification of Pooja Naik as Margao Municipal councillor shows there was manipulation of the caste certificate,” he said, demanding Sardesai’s resignation on the episode.
