The Goenchea Raponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) and other like-minded organisations have submitted a memorandum to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), demanding the removal of port limits and to include sand dunes in the Coastal Zone Management Plan.
GRE General Secretary Olencio Simoes told reporters that the GSCZMA should pursue the matter on priority with the National Coastal Zone Management Authority (NCZMA).
"As much as 46 lakh square metrs of sand dunes have not been shown in the CZMP. The GSCZMA has to come clean in the issue,” said Simoes.
Simoes said that 105 km of seashore and internal rivers are shown as port limits.
“This will affect the population living along the coastline and those whose livelihood depends on the sea. This is a conspiracy to make Goans tenants in their own land. We have told GCZMA to delete the port limit as soon as possible,” said Simoes.
