Chief Electoral Officer Kunal has stated that ‘matka’ trade has been completely closed in the State, which would help for smooth conduct of election process.

“If you still see anyone running matka trade, inform us and we will take action,” he said.

Kunal was addressing the student community of two BEd colleges in Ponda at a programme organised in the campus of PES College.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer Narayan Navti, nodal officer Nikhil Desai, nodal officer Mendes, nodal officer John Aguair, R G Desai, PES Principal Dr Vikas Pisurlekar, Dr Allen Abreu, Gurunath Khanolkar, noted singer Hema Sardesai, RJ Aryan Khedekar, noted Fado singer Sonia Sirsat, Dr Geeta Ayyer and others were present.

The students interacted with Kunal at the programme ‘Young and Responsible.’

“This is the festival of democracy and young icons should be part of it, to make it more effective,” Kunal said.

“Nobody will be able to bypass the electoral system, as the process is carried out systematically and effectively. About 100 matka cases have been booked. After the demonetization effect, now they are demoralized,” Kunal said.

He also said last time, 94 percent of the youth had exercised their voting rights, which should be now cent percent. “For this reason, we are creating this awareness and appeal to you to spread the message,” he added.

Narayan Navti, Sonia Shirsat, Hema Sardesai and RJ Aryan also spoke on the occasion.
