Demolish bungalow, give justice to people agitating: Churchill to CM

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) lone MLA Churchill Alemao has made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to raze down the illegal bungalow that has come up at the Old Goa heritage area.

He also demanded that the government tighten the screws on passengers entering the state in the wake of the omicron threat looming large across the work. Churchill demanded that the government comes out with strict rules for quarantine and other measures to keep Goa safe from the new Covid variant.

“People of Goa have been in big-time trouble since Covid hit the state over a year and a half now. Business and tourism have been hit by the pandemic. At a time when things were looking up for the tourism industry, the new Covid variant threatens to disrupt normal life. The government should be on its guard to keep the people of Goa safe”, he demanded.

Addressing the media on the eve of the feast of St Xavier at Old Goa on Friday, the Benaulim MLA made a plea to the Chief Minister to raze down the illegal bungalow and mete out justice to the people agitating against the construction in a heritage zone.

While expressing his solidarity with the people agitating against the construction in the heritage area, Churchill, however, said there are some people and parties which are out to indulge in politics and make capitalize on the issue.

“I extend my support to the people, who have initiated the movement against the illegal structure. But, I condemn the members of a political party indulging in politics over the issue. If these people were so much concerned, they and their leader should have gone on a hunger strike when the Little Flowers Church was demolished and the religious images and idols desecrated”, Churchill said.
