The Goenchea Ramponnkarancho Ekvott (GRE) has extended their support to the fast satyagraha of the heritage lovers which completed nine days on Thursday.
A delegation of GRE paid a visit to the satyagrahis and assured their support to them till the structure is razed to the ground.
GRE leader Olencio Simoes informed, “This government is planning to destroy heritage sites in the State. We, fishermen, are demanding that the structure be demolished at the earliest failing which we will be forced to hit the streets.”
“In Baina, they demolished the houses of fishermen. For highway project too, they demolished houses, so too for Mopa Airport project,” Simoes informed and questioned why it is taking so long to demolish this structure.
“When our community wants to renovate our structures the GCZMA does not give permission. Then, how come permissions were granted for this structure?”, he questioned and sought to know who will conduct an inquiry of the officials who helped commit the fraud.
Meanwhile, the Carmelite Fathers also extended their support to the fast satyagraha.
Speaking to the reporters, superior of the Carmelite Monastery at Margao Fr Sylvestre D’Souza said, “We have come here to express solidarity with the people who are here on fast because they are fighting for a just cause. We wish that Old Goa maintains its holiness and sanctity because it is a very important and holy place for all of us. We hope that justice prevails.”
Fr D’Souza also spoke with Adv Amit Palekar who is on a fast unto death over the issue.
