Denied temple visit, minor Keri girl ends life

VALPOI: In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl ended her life at Keri-Sattari on Tuesday evening, after reportedly being upset with her father for refusing to take her to a temple in view of her approaching exams.  According to reports, the girl had insisted on accompanying her father to the temple on Tuesday evening, but he decided to leave her behind at home to prepare for her exams.

The girl was one of two siblings, with a younger brother in the family.  Upset on being left at home, the girl ended her life in a room of the house.

The mother, who was engaged in house work, became suspicious only when the girl did not come out of the room after quite some time.

The family were then horrified to find the girl lifeless in the room and rushed her to the Sakhali Community Health Centre, where she was declared dead on arrival.

Valpoi police conducted the inquest and later sent the body for an autopsy at the GMC hospital, before handing it over to the family for last rites.
