The education department has withdrawn the transfer order of Sukanti Velip, a teacher of the Government Primary School at Ziltawadi-Gaondongrem, after students and parents staged a sit-in protest at the Canacona ADEI office on Wednesday morning
In the morning, students and parents proceeded to the Canacona ADEI office and staged the dharna to demand the immediate cancellation of the teacher’s transfer. Parents had alleged the transfer order had been issued issued on account of political revenge.
The ADEI then reported the matter to Director of Education Shailesh Zingade, who reportedly assured the transfer would be withdrawn after the ZP model code of conduct and that, the teacher would not be relieved until then.
The parents, however, insisted on a written assurance to the effect and refused to leave the office. Congress and GFP leaders from Canacona were also present at the ADEI office to support students and their parents in their protest.
Sources said Sukanti Velip’s transfer order which was issued a day before model code of conduct for the ZP polls came into effect, was later withdrawn by Zingade.
Parents and students vacated the ADEI premises after Canaocna ADEI Natasha Guarda along with her colleague handed over a copy of DoE’s order withdrawing the transfer order.
The 26 students of the GPS led by their parents had been boycotting classes since Monday and had refused to enter classrooms till the teacher’s transfer is cancelled.
Parents had stated that the teacher had prepared students for the school gathering, besides conducting several other activities in addition to teaching, and had also planned for a school picnic, before being abruptly transferred.
The School PTA Chairman Pradeep Gaunkar had also praised Sukanti Velip, stating that by her sheer hard work, she had saved this school from closure by getting more enrolments, as the government was planning to close it down because of insufficient student strength.
“This particular teacher has given a new lease to this school, which is now on the path of progress and development. Our school has progressed so well that more and more parents, even from outside areas, prefer to send their children to the GPS Ziltawadi,” Gaunkar had told reporters on Monday.
