Salkar was speaking to reporters after launching development works worth Rs 22 lakh at Sai Nagar, Fakir Galli represented by Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Vice Chairperson Amey Chopdekar in the presence of MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues, Councillor Shami Salkar and other local residents.
"I am glad that works worth Rs 22 lakh are being taken under the Finance Commission schemes. Earlier, there used to be a lot of discrimination between ruling and opposition councillors and sometimes, works would never be taken up in opposition wards,” said Salkar, while speaking to reporters.
“We have to understand that every ward has people who deserve development and it is not their fault if their elected representatives are in the ruling or the opposition. We have ensured that the entire money is distributed equally among all 25 wards so that there is overall development across the MMC’s Jurisdiction and there is no discrimination between ruling and opposition Councillors. We also have MLA funds and we will also use that money to take up development in all wards equally," said Salkar.
MMC Vice Chairperson Amey Chopdekar said that works on drainage, footpath and pavers would be taken up.
"Earlier, we did not have a proper road and we got the roads here and we also got internal roads paved. I have also been successful in getting the much-needed water pipeline and my next project will be to inaugurate a newly constructed temple,” said Chopdekar.
“We have got 15 electrical poles sanctioned in my ward and I also got the area of Varunapuri junction cleaned up from the earlier dark spots."
MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues and City ward councillor Shami Salkar also spoke on the occasion.
