I appreciate the initiative of the Colva Panchayat in clearing up the large Colva beach square of the sand deposits recently as they stated it was in the interest of safety of the visiting tourists. Saying that, I want to bring to the attention of the panchayat that I notice business owners in the Colva Square regularly dumping garbage/plastics from their dustbins into the open, at quite a few places around the square! And a lot of this garbage ends up being burnt (including hazardous/toxic plastics) which I am sure we will agree is extremely hazardous to not only the residents around including children, but also the so many visiting tourists. Can I request the Colva Panchayat to introduce measures to address this menace which should include placing of garbage bins at the square for tourists only; reiterate the set processes of how the business establishments can get rid of their waste; the installation of (working) CCTVs at the square (perhaps outsourced to be managed/monitored by another company and also available for panchayat/public viewing!); backed by heavy fines for business establishments violators and suspension of business licenses for repeat offenders.
