Newly elected Chaudi Councillor Chaya Soiru Komarpant stated that Chaudi town should be beautified on the lines of Smart City.
Speaking exclusively to The Goan, Komarpant said Chaudi ward inspite of being the commercial town is badly ignored by previous and present governments. “Chaudi is the backbone of Canconca people and it should be beautified without any political arrogance,” said Komarpant.
“We appeal to the Social Welfare department to start an old age home at Canacona. Government can always utilize the unused and old building of Community Health Centre to operate an old age home.”
“The Martyr’s memorial at Chaudi, which is in poor state of affairs, needs immediate intervention of the authorities to beautify it. Roadside vendors, who squat on the roads, especially across the highway, should be stopped from doing so. Authorities should evict them and rehabilitate all street side vendors to newly opened municipal market and should not allow anyone to carry trade on roads except on weekly bazaar days,” she said.
“The church road, which was never repaired over the decades, including the drainage needs to be attended on urgent basis. Similarly, the ring road of Chaudi, forest road at Xeller and its over 1 mtr width open drainages have to be protected immediately.”
“Authorities should also make provision to stop or evict stray cattle from straying on highway and other roads,” Komarpant said.
According to Komarpant, she will raise the issues and force to pass resolutions in CMC meeting on Friday.
“In other municipal councils, municipal sweepers sweep the areas at 5.30 am every day, but in Canacona no one is seen cleaning or sweeping the prime areas even after sun reaches top of our heads,” Komarpant said.
“The building damaged by the fire should be demolished immediately to avert any mishap and the fish market now in most dilapidated state needs to be renovated or a new one should be constructed without delay. I am going to raise these issues in council meeting on Friday,” she said.
“I urge the local MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar not to disown CMC for not electing his panel, but instead cooperate with the elected representatives and help in the development,” she said.
“Chaudi, the prime locality of Canacona, continues to be neglected and needs urgent beautification and if we plan and bring developments, we will certainly be lauded as Smart City in Goa,” said Komarpant, who is party of the five-member ruling councillors.
