A number of projects were inaugurated by the Verna Industries Association (VIA) on Friday as part of efforts to make the Verna Industrial Estate a model industrial estate in the State.
VIA President Pradeep Da Costa, GSIA President Damodar Kochkar and other members of the VIA inaugurated a Motorcycle Pilot Station, beautification landscape project and a subway at Verna Industrial Estate, while another water project was inaugurated at Quelossim village.
“We have multinational companies here and dignitaries from across the world visit the Verna Industrial Estate. The whole place is being beautified and with the support of the Government we want to make the VIE a beautiful, green and safe place as well as a model industrial estate,” Da Costa told reporters.
“We will beautify the area and we are inaugurating a subway for the safety of around 10,000 people walking in and out the estate. We also opened a Motorcycle Taxi Station cum Kadamba Bus point. We have partnered with KTCL to start shuttle service between Verna and other distant locations so that youth can apply for jobs in Verna,” said Da Costa.
Kochkar said projects were taken up by the VIA to reduce the burden on the government.
“This time, the VIA decided to take up beautification work and other projects under CSR. Earlier, GIDC used to allot beautification works to companies and if the company had to shut down, the beautification would be halted and no other companies could take up the works.”
“The VIA has now allotted beautification works to units. We have replanted around 500 trees that were felled during broadening of the highway and we will plant another 500 fruit-bearing trees before monsoons,” said Kochkar.
VIA Secretary Sarvesh Parab said Colorcon Asia Private Limited had accepted the request for development proposed by VIA.
“The Motorcycle Taxi Station has been electrified through a solar system and more amenities will also be provided,” said Parab.
