Development-related issues discussed at Velsao

VASCO
Various issues regarding development in Velsao were discussed at the gram sabha on Sunday.

The issues discussed and debated in the gram sabha included the need for works on internal roads, the market complex sopo collections, garbage management issues and the conducting of VDC meetings.

Former Dy Sarpanch Sylvia D’Souza alleged that the secretary would be absent during most of the VDC Meetings.

“I had placed a lot of proposals and also raised issues on Sopo collections of the new market complex and also on garbage management issues. I also questioned the proposed science park planned at Issorcim, fund allotted for Velsao ground and I also asked them about the status of the rent received from mobile towers,” said D’Souza.

“We have had three VDC meetings but strangely the secretary has not attended even a single meeting when the panchayat secretary is by default the secretary of the VDC committee also. The sarpanch was also unable to answer our queries and why should VDC meetings be conducted in the absence of the secretary,” asked D’Souza.

“We are also losing revenue because we are not doing anything about the market complex and there is no auction done. We had not received rent from the mobile tower and now after questioning, they are claiming that they have written a letter in this regard. We have the MRF facility which is ready but not operational as yet and I have been assured that it will be operating before the next monsoon.”

Velsao Sarpanch Diana Gouveia said most issues discussed in the village gram sabha were regarding development.

“We have taken the suggestion of the people and we will work together on them,” said Gouveia.
