Scores of devotees from Belagavi and neighbouring areas took part in the annual feast of St Anthony’s Church at Camp here in Belagavi on Friday evening. St Anthony is known as the ‘wonder worker’ because of the numerous miracles attributed to him both during his life and after his death.
Presiding over the Eucharistic services, Bishop Derek Fernandes of Belgaum Diocese in his homily highlighted the various aspects of the life of St Anthony.
“The feast of St Anthony of Padua remains a powerful symbol of faith, humility, and service in the Church today. He is known as the ‘Saint of Miracles’ and continues to inspire millions through his intercessory power,” Bishop Fernandes said.
“As patron saint of lost things, people turn to St Anthony in moments of distress, seeking both spiritual and material help.”
“St Anthony’s life reminds us that true greatness lies in simplicity, obedience, and love for the poor. St Anthony’s legacy challenges us today to be instruments of peace, healing, and Gospel joy in a broken world,” Bishop Fernandes added.
Parish Priest Fr Vijay Mendith, in his introductory remarks, briefed the gathering about the rising number of devotees visiting St Anthony’s Church. “Scores of devotees in distress, comprising Christians and those of other faiths, visit the church every week, especially every Tuesday, seeking special blessings and have experienced the eternal bliss and blessings of St Anthony,” Fr Mendith said.
Many priests, nuns, and devotees were present in large numbers. Later, the statue of St Anthony was taken around the campus in a procession.
