Dharwad district of Karnataka on Sunday reported its first laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19, a 33 year-old who returned to his home in Dharwad from Australia reportedly via Dubai and Goa on March 12.
Upon learning about this, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has asked Health Secretary Nila Mohanan to look into the matter. “We are on the job of tracking the contacts. We will complete the task by tonight,” Rane has stated.
As per official statements, while the checking of domestic flights began only on March 20, international flights arriving in Goa were being scanned prior to that. As passengers were asked to submit their details through the self-declaration form, it should be relatively easy for the health department to trace all those who got off in Goa from the flight carrying the 33 year-old native of Dharwad. Further details on these efforts are awaited.
Sources have revealed that the person travelled by bus from Panaji to Dharwad. Around 60 passengers travelling on the flight with this person have been identified. While the majority have been identified, high risk passengers who were in close vicinity of the confirmed patient have been put under observation. Remaining persons are likely to be traced by tomorrow, it was learnt.
6 suspected cases remain isolated
at GMC, 2 reports awaited
PANAJI: A total of six suspected cases of COVID-19 remain isolated to Goa Medical College and Hospital as on Sunday while four of the persons previously admitted have been discharged as their tests came back negative.
GMC is awaiting test reports of two samples that were forwarded previously to Kasturba Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Mumbai.
Till date, Goa has isolated 34 persons at the GMC isolation ward and a total of 40 samples have been sent to Kasturba Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Mumbai for testing so far.
Around 647 persons have been placed under home quarantine and 16,889 persons have been screened at Goa International Airport. In addition to this, 52 persons remain quarantined at government facilities including 29 at the ESI Hospital and seven at T B Hospital, Margao.
