Did depression lead Nimisha Gone to kill her 14-month-old daughter and later attempt to end her own life by jumping off the Zuari bridge?
The incident has stunned the otherwise peaceful residential colony at Chicalim, but sources close to the family claim that the mother Nimisha Gone may have been suffering from depression.
"Nimisha's father P Valsan is a close friend and the entire family is closely known to me. P Valsan is a well-known marine fabrication and structural engineering contractor and has an industrial shed. He was the main contractor for almost all industries in and around Vasco,” said the source.
“However around two years ago, his wife died of cancer and he stopped his entire business and confined himself to the house. He even leased out his shed.”
“Nimisha's father-in-law is also a well-known personality and their family resides near the MES College area. Nimisha, the second of three sisters, was married to Nilesh Gone a few years ago and both of them were based in Germany.”
“A few days ago, Nimisha had arrived with her child and her husband, Nilesh Gone, had accompanied them till Bangalore, where Nimisha’s elder sister is based and he returned to Germany,” the source said.
“Nimisha and her baby had been staying along with her father in Chicalim."
The source added that doctors in GMC hospital had given in writing that Nimisha had been under depression and needed to be shifted to the IPHB.
Another family friend said Nimisha had been visiting a doctor in Vasco for treatment for depression.
"She had probably been going through depression and had been very disturbed ever since she came to Goa. She had even met a doctor at a Vasco hospital and was also under medication.”
“Nilesh Gone is likely to arrive in Goa by Sunday. He will first go and see the baby in Hospicio Hospital, after which the baby will be taken for post-mortem and the final rites are expected to take place by Sunday evening. As of now, Nimisha's sister is with her in GMC hospital and helping her cope with the tragedy," said the source.
Another source said Nimisha’s father was clueless about the murder of his granddaughter until he received a call from the police.
“Nimisha's father was along with a cousin at the time, and it was this cousin who went from the other side to open the door and found the baby dead in the room,” said the source.
