Digambar betrayed me, says late councillor Ashlesha’s father

With just three days to go for the by-election for ward 21 of Margao Municipal Council, Ramesh Naik, father of late councillor Ashlesha Naik, has made a fervent plea to voters to elect Succorina Fernandes to the civic body.

Ramesh addressed the media on Thursday with a tape recorder to prove a point that he was betrayed by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat by denying that his daughter had never complained to him of harassment by former councillor Damu Shirodkar after her election in the 2015 municipal poll. He played the tape containing the conversation between Digambar and Ashlesha just to prove a point that Digambar betrayed him by saying that his daughter had never complained of harassment by Damu Shirodkar.
In the three-cornered contest, the Digambar group is backing Damu Shirodkar’s wife Deepa, while Succorina is being supported by the BJP. The third candidate Sonali Kale is being supported by the Shadow Council of Margao. “Digambar had been my friend. I had faith in him but he betrayed me by denying that my daughter ever complained to him of harassment by Damu,” he said.
Saying that he has nothing against Digambar or the candidate Geeta Shirodkar, Ramesh appealed to the voters to elect Succorina and teach Damu a lesson. “I have moved door to door in the ward. I am confident that the voters will elect Succcorina to the civic body,” he said.
